Supporting Brides March: Honoring a Legacy and Building a Stronger Future for Domestic Violence Advocacy
For nearly 25 years, Brides March has been a symbol of strength, remembrance, and community resilience in the fight against domestic violence. This movement, which began in honor of Gladys Ricart, a beloved woman whose life was tragically cut short by domestic violence, has grown to become a powerful force in raising awareness, empowering survivors, and supporting families. From its early days, Brides March has stood for the courage and dignity of those impacted by domestic violence, creating spaces for communities to come together in solidarity and compassion.
I am truly honored to be part of this journey as I work alongside BridesMarch CEO Lethy Liriano and her dedicated team. As someone who believes in the importance of connecting deeply with others, supporting BridesMarch aligns with my passion for meaningful work and my commitment to empowering organizations that advocate for change. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for BridesMarch’s next chapter—one that builds on its legacy and amplifies its impact, bringing hope and resources to even more communities.
My role with BridesMarch is focused on growth, outreach, and sustainability. Each of these areas is essential for organizations that aim to expand their impact, particularly nonprofits and advocacy groups. For BridesMarch, this means enhancing community engagement, amplifying their digital presence, supporting their signature events, and strategizing for long-term growth.
Strengthening Community Engagement
Community engagement is at the heart of every successful movement. BridesMarch has built a legacy by bringing together survivors, families, and allies who are united in the commitment to ending domestic violence. As we move forward, we’re working on ways to deepen those connections and expand BridesMarch’s reach. In advocacy, the real impact comes from the relationships you build. When people feel genuinely connected to a mission, they’re not just supporters—they’re allies who actively participate and advocate.
One actionable tip for organizations looking to strengthen community engagement is to listen actively. Take the time to understand the unique needs and concerns of your community. For BridesMarch, this means honoring the voices of survivors and families, and tailoring our outreach to reflect their experiences and insights. Simple steps, like regular feedback sessions, dedicated spaces for stories and experiences, and accessible resources, can significantly deepen trust and connection.
Expanding Digital Presence and Public Outreach
As BridesMarch grows, so does the need for a powerful digital platform. A strong online presence is more than just a website—it’s a dynamic space for storytelling, connection, and advocacy. We’re focusing on sharing the mission of BridesMarch with a broader audience through digital platforms, creating engaging content, and offering meaningful updates that invite more people to stand with us. By amplifying BridesMarch’s story and mission, we hope to engage both new supporters and longstanding allies, making the movement accessible to people across different communities.
For small business owners and nonprofits alike, expanding digital reach doesn’t have to mean an expensive overhaul. Start with consistent, authentic content that highlights your mission and purpose. Share real stories, acknowledge your supporters, and show the tangible impact of your work. Building an engaged digital community takes time, but it’s one of the most effective ways to amplify your mission.
Supporting Signature Events and Milestones
One of the most inspiring aspects of BridesMarch is its signature annual march, a day dedicated to honoring victims and survivors, raising awareness, and mobilizing communities. This year, as BridesMarch gears up for its 25th Annual March, we’re working to make this milestone event truly impactful. Additionally, new initiatives planned for the coming year will create more spaces for healing, remembrance, and advocacy, each event reinforcing the commitment to empowering communities and standing up against domestic violence.
Creating successful events requires careful planning and clear alignment with your mission. If you’re organizing events for your business or nonprofit, make each gathering meaningful and relevant to your audience. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a large public event, ensure that your core values and goals shine through. It’s these intentional details that make events memorable and impactful.
Building for Sustainable Growth
For any organization—especially a nonprofit—sustainable growth requires clear strategy and purpose. In my role with BridesMarch, we conduct regular strategy consultations to ensure we’re building on a solid foundation. This is about more than just expansion; it’s about thoughtful, purposeful growth that will serve BridesMarch for years to come. Every strategy session centers around the question: How can we grow while staying true to our mission?
For entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and small business owners, sustainable growth should always align with your mission and values. Avoid the temptation to expand just for the sake of growth. Instead, focus on initiatives and projects that deepen your impact and strengthen your foundation. When your growth strategy is rooted in your purpose, you’re setting your organization up for lasting success.
Right now, one of our most immediate focuses is the BridesMarch in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on November 17th. This event is more than just a march—it’s a powerful day of solidarity and resilience. Funds raised through the BridesMarch GoFundMe campaign will help cover transportation, meals, and essential resources for participants traveling to be part of this important event. This is a time for communities to come together, honor survivors, and advocate for change. Every dollar helps us make this gathering possible, creating a safe and supportive space for those standing up against domestic violence.
I’m incredibly proud to support BridesMarch on this journey. As we work together to honor their legacy and lay a foundation for the future, I’m reminded of the power of connection, resilience, and shared purpose. This partnership is a testament to the strength of community and the impact we can have when we come together for a greater cause.
